Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Linux Systems Engineer to enhance our enterprise team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in managing and automating complex virtualized and Cisco Networking.

As such experience with VMware and Linux is essential, specifically Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and their associated configuration utilities Ansible and Satellite. This role offers a hybrid-work arrangement, requiring one day per week at our
Washington, DC office. As a Senior Engineer, you will be pivotal in designing and implementing any changes required to maintain an enterprise infrastructure with a serious focus on ensuring high-availability, scalability, and security.
Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Management:

Design, deploy, and manage complex Linux-based systems and infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and scalability.

Implement and manage automation frameworks using Ansible to streamline operations and reduce manual intervention.

Utilize RHEL Satellite for efficient system management, including patching, provisioning, and configuration management.
-
Manage and maintain virtualized environments using VMware, ensuring robust and scalable infrastructure solutions.
-
This role occasionally requires after-hours support to perform maintenance tasks to ensure minimal service disruption.
Automation & Scripting:
-
Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks and roles to automate infrastructure tasks.

Write custom scripts in YAML, Python, Bash, or other scripting languages to support automation efforts and infrastructure management.
Systems Administration:
-
Perform day-to-day administration and troubleshooting of Linux systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and other distributions.

Ensure systems are up-to-date with the latest security patches and updates.

Monitor system performance and proactively identify and resolve issues to maintain optimal uptime.
Security & Compliance:

Implement and maintain security best practices across Linux environments.

Ensure compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Participate in security audits and vulnerability assessments, and implement remediation plans.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

3+ years of experience in systems engineering or administration with a strong focus on Linux environments.

Proven experience with Ansible automation, including writing and managing complex playbooks and roles.
-
Extensive experience with RHEL Satellite for system management and provisioning.

Strong knowledge and experience with VMware virtualization technologies.
-
Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a security clearance.
Technical Skills:
-
Strong expertise in Linux systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and CentOS.

Proficiency in scripting languages such as YAML, Bash, Python, or Perl.

Understanding of networking concepts, storage, and virtualization technologies.

Experience with Ansible.
-
Strong knowledge of Cisco networking, including configuration and management of routers, switches, and firewalls.

Experience with Cisco Unified Communications platforms is a plus.

Experience with VMware, including ESXi, vCenter, and related technologies.

Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically in high-pressure situations.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience.

Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Proven leadership abilities and experience mentoring junior engineers.
Certifications:

Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or equivalent certification.

Certifications such as RHCE, CCNA, or equivalent.

AWS Certified Solutions Architect or equivalent cloud certification is a plus.
